Volume Three, Issue 3

Dani Putney

This one’s for the kids
frozen in time, trapped
in a psychedelic journey
through their minds,
the herbs of their lives wafting
through stale air like cigarette smoke
feeding collapsible lungs;
their thermometers count down
to absolute zero, doomsday,
mercury flowing through frosted glass
over a tundra of failure;
they’re encapsulated
in a frigid chamber of hope,
waiting, waiting, waiting
for a reckoning never to come;
their hearts are locked
in cryogenesis,
beating silenced
by lies told to our children,
valves made inoperable
by permafrost of a cruel world

Dani Putney: "I am a queer, non-binary, Asian American poet exploring the West. My poetry most recently appears or is forthcoming in Juke Joint Magazine, Lockjaw Magazine, and Noble / Gas Qtrly, among other publications. Presently, I'm infiltrating a small conservative town in the middle of the Nevada desert."
