Artist Statement

To me, colour is everything - the more vibrant the better! I like to draw and paint scenes from everyday life, and look for beauty in unusual places. I am an avid collector of odds and ends, paper bits, and cloth pieces which I use extensively in my collages. I am obsessed with the idea of transformation and I like to use a wide variety of bits and bobs from my junk collection to embellish my artworks, which then take on new meaning and life of their own. I find making artist books meditative and extremely relaxing. I work primarily with gouache, inks, and acrylic paints.

Oormila Vijayakrishnan Prahlad: "I am an Australian artist, poet, and pianist of Indian heritage. I hold a Masters in English and am a member of Sydney’s North Shore Poetry Project and Authora Australis. I have been painting and exhibiting for the past twenty years and my paintings can be found in many private collections. I was a finalist in the Waverley- Woollahra Landscape Prize 2018. My recent works have been published in 3 AM Magazine, Back Patio Press, and Star 82 Review, and are forthcoming in Unlost Journal, Parentheses Journal, Otoliths, and elsewhere."
